Home Swap Hilton: We live in a Strawbale house in the Rietspruit Conservancy overlooking the Rietspruit and Umgeni Valleys. There is a short walk to a beautiful waterfall from our door. The nature reserve has various types of buck, warthog, small mammals and many types of birds. We are 15 minutes from the village of Hilton with the last 2km being on a dirt road. You are really in the bush but not far from civilisation. The estate has 4 other homes and 25 hectares of unspoilt natural bush. We have back up power, so no load-shedding. On a clear day you can see Giants Castle in the Drakensberg.

This evidently English country village is a prime tourist destination, with clean mountain air from the escarpment above Pietermaritzburg and beautiful views of the Drakensberg. The reserve lies on the northern slopes of Pietermaritzburg and visitors will be sure to spot animals like impala, blesbok, zebra, bushbuck, dassies, grey and blue duiker and crowned eagles roaming the reserve.
